The Tech Behind the Chaheati

We’ve received a few questions about the technology we’ve used in the Chaheati heated chair and the rechargeable battery pack. While a lot of the tech behind it is patent-pending, we wanted to address the questions as best we could without giving away too much information or making it overly technical.

When we went through the long process of designing the Chaheati, much of our inspiration was drawn from the companies manufacturing some of the best high-end extreme sports equipment. We chose these types of companies for inspiration because of our vision of creating a comfortable yet durable all-season heated camp chair. Those same manufacturers know that weather extremes put outdoor gear to the test just as much as a user’s wear and tear on it. Cold and heat cause expansion and contraction of materials, while water and fire can corrode or damage in different ways. Not only do the structural components of a chair need to stand up to these weather elements; electronics do as well.

The tubing used for the chair structure is 19-gauge, which is preferred for more rigorous outdoor use. The fabric we decided to use is meant to protect the ultra-thin heating elements embedded in it from adverse conditions and to also stand up to physical abuse. The “600D” we reference in the features of the Chaheati fabric is simply a measure of the durability of the fabric. A 600D polyester fabric is tougher than a 420D fabric. This fabric — combined with the 19-guage tubing — can hold some serious weight! We’ve rated the chair to safely seat up to 280 pounds.

The battery and heating element represent the other side of the Chaheati’s tech. When thinking about ways to heat the chair, we didn’t want a bulky heating coil or some other obtrusive design. Comfort was just as much a priority as functionality during its design. We decided to go with a unique ultra-thin carbon fiber (non-wire) based heating system. The fabric is strong but flexible to accommodate the wide variety of body types it encounters, and is of low-voltage design to maximize their longevity.

The rechargeable lithium-ion battery we chose had to provide long-term heat and to have a rapid recharge rate. With a constant stream of research and investment into lithium-ion technology, it made perfect sense to adopt it for Chaheati. We also wanted it to be extremely safe so we incorporated a digital circuit breaker into the battery unit. The battery is integrated into the small hand-held temperature controller, which features four convenient temperature settings.

All of this tech combines to make the Chaheati heated camp chair what it is: a durable, all-season camp chair made to withstand a variety of climates and conditions. It keeps you warm on those cold outdoor evenings and comfortable all year round. We’re proud of the design, and we hope you will be too.
